There are two types of dressers in the world: warm weather lovers and cold weather romantics.

Regardless of the camp you fall into, it is currently winter in the Southern Hemisphere and keeping warm on these chilly mornings is key. Having a few winter pieces that make you want to climb, albeit tentatively, out of your warm, cozy bed is key to starting the day with confidence (and warm bones).

Here are three versatile winter pieces we recommend adding to your wardrobe this 2023 winter season:

Winter Capsule Piece 1 - Cardigan

Cardigans have had a glow up. Whether you choose to go for an oversized, chunky, cropped or long style, cardigans are a versatile piece that can be worn alone or layered over a t-shirt or high-necked shirt for extra warmth.

Pair your cardigan with jeans, chunky loafers and a tote or shoulder bag for an everyday, casual look. You can swap out the loafers for sneakers for extra comfort. If you're in Sydney or a State with warmer winter temperatures, elevate the look with a pair of strappy sandals like our muse Sylvie Mus (@sylviemus_).

Winter Capsule Piece 2 - Knee High Boots

Knee high boots are a triple threat - elegant, stylish and warm. The right style will stand the test of time and carry you through many winter seasons.

Pair your knee high boots with a knit dress, midi skirt, jeans or a maxi dress. Complete your outfit with a trench or wool coat and accessorise with your favourite pair of sunglasses and handbag.

Knee high boots are universally stylish and can be worn by anyone, no matter your body shape or age. For more style inspiration, you can browse through our curated Winter Style Guide for knee high boots here or check out our Fresh Ways to Style Knee High Boots post on Instagram.

Winter Capsule Piece 3 - Winter Knit Dress

When curating a perfect winter capsule wardrobe, versatile items that can be styled a myriad of ways are key. Cue the knit dress. A winter wardrobe staple that can take you from errands to lunch to dinner by simply changing your accessories.

Look for knit dresses in a thicker fabrication as these heavier fabrics usually glide and drape over the body. Size up if you are after a looser fit. If you have a larger bust, choose a v-neck line rather than a high neck.

Style your knit dress with sneakers for a casual look, the ever-trendy ballet flats or Mary-Janes for a softer aesthetic or boots if you are looking for extra warmth.

The key to curating a hardworking winter wardrobe is adding pieces that have versatility. This means they can be styled for all areas of your life. Whether you're grocery shopping, heading to the pub, brunch with the girls, to work or dinner, a knit dress, cardigan or knee high boots, when styled correctly, can be worn effortlessly across across all of these activities.
